DATA Registration

Thinktanks, meeting of the minds, brain trusts: these were Just some of the terms that were thrown around while developing DATA, Data Advocates of Tucson Arizona. DATA, being spearheaded by Cradle to Career, is in the beginning stages of building a data repository dedicated to connecting local organizations to quantify Pima County’s education and employment demographics at a deeper level. On May 9th, the inaugural discussions involved leaders from the University of Arizona, Pima County JTED, Literacy Connect, Pima County Juvenile Court, and more. Cradle to Career began the meeting with discussing the general goals of the data repository and asked one seemingly simple question: What questions about your community have you been unable to answer?

From there questions from organizations about our city’s workforce, determining success of educational programs, and how finding ways to elevate dependency youth, began to flourish. By pooling our data from other trusted institutions, we can enhance our decision-making, improve our storytelling, and revamp our strategies to generate revenue. With this process, we are looking to maintain transparency with the public as we work with our partners to gather trustworthy data to serve our community. Tyler Glasser from Intermountain Centers brought up a new adage, “Data is the new oil but also the old coal.” Meaning that data helps us grow, find new opportunities, eliminate financial redundancies, and strengthen our organizations missions, but we also must put significant effort into carefully collecting, refining, and cleaning it to prevent it from causing damage to our community.
